The Vanishing Threshold: A Riverside Villa in Shanghai

Located along a river in Shanghai, this 1,000 m² private villa draws directly from the way architect Ling Zida and his family experience the world — the openness of coastlines, the movement of light, the quiet presence of nature — all distilled into a question: what can space really be?

From outdoor areas larger than the interior itself, to carefully placed openings and a continuous paving logic, the villa maintains an unbroken conversation between the built and natural environments. We call this: "The Vanishing Threshold."

The collaboration between Goldreif and Ling Zida is not a product partnership — it is an exploration of how a home is truly lived.

Goldreif delivers fully integrated, bespoke solutions across wall system, wardrobes, and bathroom cabinetry. Every function and storage element recedes into the whole, leaving only a quiet dialogue between material and light.
Texture, light, and sightline come together to create a dwelling that returns to the essential.
In the main kitchen, a single-pour, seamless countertop meets the demands of daily use — with restraint. Different materials define different purposes. Order emerges in the details.
